A scanner that “is not found” can fail at several simple layers before it ever becomes a complicated driver problem.Start with power and connection. Prove Windows can see the device. Then move into the vendor software.
The raw support cases repeatedly came back to this order.

Confirm the scanner is powered on and the cable is fully connected at both ends. Indicator lights prove power, not necessarily a working data connection.

If the scanner is connected through a docking station, hub, or adapter, test a direct connection to the computer when possible. One source case began working only after changing the USB path.

Check the Windows device or scanner interface before assuming the vendor application is the root cause. If Windows cannot detect the device, reinstalling the scanning application may not solve the physical or USB problem.

Install or repair the software intended for the exact scanner family. The source cases included ScanSnap software being required before the scanner could be configured normally.

Turn the scanner off, disconnect and reconnect it, then reboot the workstation when device detection remains stuck. Re-test after the system returns.

Do not stop at “device detected.” Complete a real scan through the intended software and confirm the output reaches the expected destination.
Peripheral problems can expose a larger endpoint problem.
Scanner only
If Windows and other applications are responsive, isolate the scanner, cable, USB path, and vendor software.
Everything slow
One source case combined repeated scanner trouble with browser slowness, 10–20 second interface delays, and constant 100% CPU. At that point the scanner was no longer the only problem.
Old hardware
If the workstation is consistently resource-bound and multiple basic tasks are failing, document the condition and consider replacement instead of spending unlimited time reinstalling the same peripheral software.
A scanner ticket can become a time sink quickly.
Do not
If the device is not detected at the Windows or USB layer, repeated vendor-software reinstalls are unlikely to prove the physical path.

The docking station is part of the connection path. Test around it before declaring the scanner defective.
Escalate
If remote troubleshooting cannot verify cabling, ports, physical error codes, or the MFP control panel behavior, an onsite test may be the shortest route to proof.
Power → Cable → USB path → Windows detection → Vendor software → Real scan.
Work from the physical layer toward the application instead of starting with the most complicated explanation.
